Michael Torrens leads institutional research, assessment, and accreditation at Utah State University,one of the nation's premier student-centered, land-grant and space-grant universities. His office is a resource for data-driven decision making, serving key stakeholders and the wider community. By gathering and analyzing information about University activities and outcomes, Torrens measures results to ensure that the University achieves what it sets out to do, helping to facilitate and inform continuous improvement.
Prior to joining Utah State University in 2010, Torrens served as director of Applied Research & Innovation at CFED in Washington, D.C., where he managed the Local Capital Market Investment Fund and led asset-building research, program development, and policy work for six years. Prior to his work in Washington, he served as executive director of New Jersey Community Capital. He holds a BA from Brown University and MPP from Princeton University. He lives in Logan, Utah with his wife,a university professor,and two children.
